A chaise longue, French for long chair, is an elongated seat designed to support the legs in a stretched out, reclining position. As a standalone piece it looks like an extended armchair, but the term is now most often used for the long, chaise style extension that forms one end of a corner or sectional sofa.
When built into a sofa, the chaise section swaps a normal seat depth for a much longer one, giving space to fully stretch out rather than just sit.
