Microfibre is a synthetic fabric, usually polyester, woven from fibres far finer than a human hair. This very fine weave gives the fabric a soft, almost suede like feel while also making it naturally resistant to liquids soaking in, since the tight weave has very little space for moisture to pass through.
It is a practical, budget friendly choice for family living rooms, since most spills sit on the surface long enough to be blotted away rather than staining immediately. It is generally less breathable than natural fibres such as linen, which can feel warmer in prolonged contact. See our guide to sofas for pets and kids for how it compares to other easy care fabrics.
