Top-grain leather is also cut from the upper part of the hide, but the very top layer is lightly sanded to remove natural marks, then given a finish coat. This makes the surface more even and consistent than full-grain leather, and generally a little more resistant to stains and light scuffs, since the finish acts as a protective layer.
It sits in the middle of the leather range for both price and character. It will not develop quite the same deep patina as full-grain leather, but it is more forgiving of everyday family life and easier to keep looking uniform.
